Machine Tool/CNC

Description

The participants plan and set-up the correct sequence of machining operations in accordance with blueprint, layouts, or other instructions. They are required to use various hand tools, micrometers, gages, and other precision measuring instruments. The participants will become familiar with the basic set-up and operations of manual mills, lathes, and surface grinders. They will also be introduced to basic set-up and operation of CNC mills and turning machines. 

Outcome Summary

Participant will be able to:

  • Read and interpret blueprints (NACFAM BR1-16)
  • Demonstrate shop math skills (NACAM MF1-5)
  • Use basic hand tools (NACFAM MF17-19)
  • Set-up and operate manual machines (NIMS Machining Skills Level 1 Operational Duties #2)
  • Accurately use precision measuring tools (NACFAM MF2)
  • Develop simple computer numerical control (CNC) programs (NIMS Machining Skills Level 1 Operational Duties #2)
