Your Windows 2000 system probably comes preconfigured with a setting that is not compatible with our dial-in network services. The tip below from Microsoft will resolve this issue and allow you to connect to our system.

How to Disable the Negotiate multi-link for single link connection

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft Windows 2000 , Professional Edition. This issue occurs because the client and server configurations are not compatible.

This fix is specifically designed to fix the following error:
Error Message 738: The Server Did Not Assign an Address

To disable the Negotiate multi-link for single link connection, use the following method:

  • Click Start , point to Settings , and then click Network and Dial-Up Networking
  • Right-click the connection, and then click Properties.
  • Click the Networking tab.
  • In the Type of dial-up server I am calling box, click PPP: Windows 95/98/NT/2000, Internet
  • Click Settings.
  • Click to clear the Negotiate multi-link for single link connections check box.
  • Click OK and then click OK.
