Dial-up Networking is now installed on your PC. You are now ready to create a connection to your service provider. Follow the steps below to create a connection for GRCC dial-in modem pool.

  1. Double-click on the My Computer icon displayed on your desktop.
  2. Double-click on the Dial-Up Networking folder icon.
  3. Double-click on the Make New Connection icon.
  4. Type in a name for this connection (something like GRCC PPP or whatever), and select a modem from the list.
  5. Click on the Next > button.
  6. Type the telephone number for your service provider. GRCC’s number is 234-3717.
  7. Click on the Next > button.
  8. Click on the Finish button.

You are now ready to connect to the Internet. Double-click on the new connection icon you have just created, and enter your User Name and Password.

NOTE:

If you are a student, you have a Novell account on our academic server. Your user name will be identical to the one you use on campus. It is your first and last name combined, or (in the case of people with the same name) whatever information you were given when you looked up your username. Do not add any domain to your name (no @grcc.edu) . For example, if your name was Marrien McGrath, your user name may be MarrienMcGrath and nothing else. Your password will be whatever you changed it to after you logged in for the first time. You may use the same login name and password to check your student e-mail by clicking on Student E-mail from the Quick Reference dropdown box at the bottom of the GRCC Home page.

If you are faculty, you have a Novell account on our Office server. Your user name will be identical to the one you use on campus. It is the first letter of your first name and the first 7 letters of your last name plus @grcc.edu and nothing else. For example, if your name was Marrien McGrath, your user name would be mmcgrath@grcc.edu and nothing else. Your password will be identical to the password you use while on campus for logging onto the network. If you change your password here on campus remember, because dial-in is using the same one.

Once you have successfully connected to the service provider, start your favorite Web Browser (Internet Explorer came with most Windows 95/98 installs) and visit one of the following links:
Staff e-mail: http://mail.grcc.edu/
Student E-mail: Click here
NOTE: in order for e-mail to work, your must have a password for your e-mail account.
For students, it is the same as your network password on campus. Staff must set up an e-mail password on campus using the Tools menu in GroupWise.
